What's on my Workdesk today? Not a lot! And it isn't Wednesday yet either though it will be by the time I have finished this post! I have been doing some papercrafting this week but there is nothing out right now because I have also been working on another project, and as It was almost at an end, I took myself out on to a shady porch this afternoon, and did the finishing touches. So here is my 'desk' for today, complete with little red knitting accessory holder that I have had for more years than I can remember, and of course the ever present cup of tea. I just don't function without that.
And what am I making I hear you ask? Well it is a 'Happypotamus'. I saw one on someone else's blog about three weeks ago so I followed her link to find the pattern and just knew I had to have a go. And here she is. (I think it's a 'she' anyway).
It was love at first sight. She is made all from African Flower motifs, mostly pentagons, with a few hexagons, a couple of octagons and one heptagon (7 sides). They were nice little pieces of work for me to hold while it is too hot to do any proper knitting. Then they were all crocheted together which is why I have a look of concentration as I try to fit the last motif in the nose gap without all the stuffing coming out!
Here is her face...
and I couldn't resist this shot of her other end as well!
If anyone else is interested, you can find the pattern here. It cost around 6$ but I have to say it was an excellent pattern with detailed instructions and lots of photographs to help with the assembling of her.
Having stopped an earlier papercraft project to make some extra cards for special occasions, I did finally return to my dinosaur card yesterday and the kirigami bit is now done. The rest of the card is still under construction, but hopefully I will be able to do a post on it later in the week.
I will be linking up to Julia's blog in the morning, and setting off to see what everyone else has been doing. If you don't know what I am talking about, go along to her Stamping Ground, and join in the fun.
just love your new friend, she's great!
ReplyDeleteOh she is so adorable! And thank you for showing her cute face - and her bum!
ReplyDeleteNot surprised you fell in love with her, who could not. She would make an excellent door stop if you could work a way out of stuffing her with sand (so it didn't come out) as well as "bed mates" that are soft and cuddly. Oh the possibilities with this pattern.
Thanks for sharing, now to investigate kirigami.
Hugs, Neet 25 xx (thanks for visiting me and yes, PO's are a pain - and expensive)
What a gorgeous Happypotomus - I think she is beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteI got sent home today as they ran out of anaesthetises - not impressed, but one can't do much about it.
Blessings
Maxine
She is just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI agree - definitely a she! She is so gorgeous - well done for getting her made. I take my hat off to anyone who can follow crochet patterns. I have tried - but to no avail - I can do squares and sew up blankets - and that's it, crochet-wise.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week.

ReplyDeleteHappypotamus is gorgeous. I wish I could crochet, I would do her in a heartbeat. I'm all thumbs though. I have to say the photo of her bum is fabulous. How could you not be happy when she is around.

I love it! Oh how I wish I was the one who could see something, design the pattern and create it. Kim 112
ReplyDeleteHello, I am sending this to everyone. Im sorry I am not going to be able to get to all the desk and I have now lost my sheet of paper that I was writing them down on. I don't think my cat is going to make it through the night to even see the vet. She is old just like my dog so I guess they are going to get sick at the same time or so. I just going to copy and paste and sorry to every one that I didn't get to read.. I just cant do it right now. Thank you Roberta 40 and bright blessings to all.
ReplyDeleteThat is just the cutest thing...love the rear view! Hugs. Pam#36
ReplyDeleteWhat a adorable project, definitely makes me happy just seeing it here. I hope you have a wonderful week! Danie #62
ReplyDeleteYou are a true crafter with your awesome new friend. Loved BOTH ends of this project, too (grin).
ReplyDeleteYou asked where I know where all my supplies are. I keep my paint, handmade (by me) paper, inks, and sewing supplies in my main floor craft space. I keep my assemblage supplies, beeswax, etc., as well as all my fabric, in the basement. That way I know where everything is.
Thanks for stopping by on Wednesday. Happy belated WOYWW from #2.
So amazing ! Love your handiwork , Kate .
ReplyDeleteBoth ends of the huggy are beautiful .
cheers Shirley-Anne
Oh wow she is just so cute!
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by, and glad to hear the parcel is waiting for you ;)

Hello again. Thank you for visiting and obviously taking a real gander around my site - trust you managed to get onto the Parental care ministries UK website too. What a beautiful project you are involved in - those patterns are lovely, and how I praise God for folk like yourself who are able to give of your time and skills to bless others in this way. Honestly, whoever suggested that retirement is for relaxing??? Don't know how we ever found time to go to work! Like Greenfields, PCMUK encourages folk to sponsor, and get to know, the children. This has, over the past 18months, resulted in a huge increase in health for the children at Kyehimba - a real blessing to see. They are now full of fun, happy, healthy, and delighted when the team goes out to visit - preparing shows and presentations for the team to watch. It has also meant that the school can get good teachers who want to stay, because they are paid a salary. BRILLIANT!
ReplyDeleteTake care, and may God bless your endeavours for those folk in Africa whom you support.

O-M-G…I'm in love with the HAPPYPOTOMUS!!! She is awesome. How experienced of a crocheter would one need to be to make her?? I'm not super experienced, but know most of the basic stitches and can follow a basic pattern.
ReplyDeleteTY for the visit to my blog. I've only been art journaling about a year and a half or so. It helps me deal with no longer being able to work. I've always been a crafter of some sort though. I love that there is no right or wrong to art journaling. You can just start putting stuff on paper and see where it goes. I hope you are enjoying your weekend. (((HUGS)))

Oh Kate, your happy hippo is simply adorable! I must show my hubby these pics as we both love hippos. The pic of the rear end was so funny!! What a fun project.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I was so busy and preoccupied with our house move that I completely forgot about WOYWW last week. I'm not sure I've really got time this coming week either and I may bunk off for a bit till after the move...
Thanks for your nice comment. Do you remember much about Dawlish from your childhood visits? I adore going there, but the trouble is I always want to take photos of the same thing each time! There are so many intriguing details that cry out to be photographed.
Have a great week.
Shoshi
Aww . . .LOVE your Happypotomus! Splendid xxx
