Handicrafts by Kate Perry and other ramblings

I see it is a whole week since I posted on here again. I have been busy but I keep making things I can't show yet! At least I managed to visit a few more of you this week, and today I even have some real crafting on my desk!

All the little cut-outs in the pink tray are the embellishments for a mini album I am making.
As you may have realised by now I am quite a fan of the tutorials on sale at Jessica Sprague. I have learned a huge amount about Adobe photoshop from them, and I also purchased a set of classes on using the Silhouette cameo. I know a lot of information is available for free on the internet, but you have to search for it, and I find these short courses are much more useful, and I have bought all of them when they have been on offer so they only cost me a few dollars each time. Plus I have the notes and videos for life, so I can refer back to them when I need to.
Anyway, the silhouette ones have been sitting on my computer for months so I decided to work through them. I have completed the first set and the mini album is the end product.
I had a rather frustrating evening to begin with as I couldn't get the right settings to cut through my card, so I wasted several sheets, (see the bin as evidence), and got very close to throwing it all away. But after a fresh brew, I had another go, and eventually I did get it all done.
The pages were much easier to cut as they were mostly straight lines, and the zig-zag binder should have been simple, but I lost the perforations somewhere along the way and ended up with lots of cut strips, so I had to do that again! Talk about learning by your mistakes.
So instead of the finished book to show you, I have an assortment of bits and pieces, but hopefully I will be back in a day or two with the finished article.
Now I have to persuade this sleeping beauty to move off my printer, so that I can put some new ink cartridges in, as all my colours have gone. She won't be very happy about that.
And then I will pop over to Julia's Stamping Ground to link this up with all my other WOYWW friends.

Lots of lovely things in the process here :0) I Love that your cat is on the printer, we have a dog called Poppy who always wants cuddles, usually when I am covered in glue or ink x

I'm glad the book got there ok! Hope you have fun using it!
You must have lots of patience getting all those embellishments done....worth it though when you can just whip up a LO or two...

This all looks interesting, can't wait to see the finished article.

I am very sorry but I thought it was a picture of an oven ready chicken too at first glance. Arwen actually looks so cosy on her fleecy cushion, I bet she didn't apreciate having to move. Jean x

Hi Kate - thanks for calling by yesterday :) I love that you are as organised as I aspire to be - note the aspire!! But you're way ahead in trying out new techniques!

Such a sweet piccie of your cat snoozing - I wonder if it's because the printer was warm? Our neighbours cats generally hop onto our car bonnets if we've been out and they fancy a warm snooze!

Lots of lovely busy-ness going on there, Kate! Nice little cut outs for the mini-album. My album (about my Dad) has had to take a back seat for a while, I'm afraid, along with all my other creative endeavours (apart from the odd Zentangle!) - too much else to do!

Thanks for your lovely comment. I am trying to be sensible and pace myself. I have packed 4 banana boxes so far (will eventually need enough boxes to satisfy a small banana republic, methinks!) and one of those is the first from my ARTHaven! My cutting mats, paper trimmer and white A4 cardstock are now packed so I can't make anything!

We are still at the early pre-Contract stage on both properties and anything could still go wrong, but hopefully everything will go through OK.

Happy belated WOYWW,

Oh Kate top marks for being willing to learn and persevering until you have mastered the learning! Looks as though that mini album will be a treat when you have finished it.

At least you are getting practice using your tutorials and your machine. I just know when you really get the hang of things with the Silhouette you will be blowing us away, that thing is amazing from what I've seen. I love your preparations for your mini album. A true sign you have a real plan unlike me the plan doesn't quite come together until the end?ha-ha Tamika #126

I think I'll have to check out the Jessica Sprague tutorials. I've read about them, but have not considered attending them. What you say makes sense. I look forward to seeing your completed album. April #133
